My name is Joan Scales, I received my Master's degree from the Kent School of Social Work at The University of Louisville. I have been an LCSW for over 14 years and have mostly worked within a medical type setting; Helping clients to manage and cope with various aspects of their illness/disease. I work with young adults and adults with adjustment-related issues, anxiety, depression, grief, coping with chronic or acute illness, life transitions, peer and family relationships, as well as adult ADHD and overall health and wellness. I am also a trained tobacco cessation specialist. 

I utilize various treatment modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). 

As a therapist, it is my goal to connect with my clients, allowing them the ability to feel heard, understood, and free of judgment while also working actively to help them cope with their distress. It is an honor and a privilege that I do not take lightly.
